Is our furniture from Bali? No.

The origins of Clement Studio furniture begin long before it graces your living space. Driven by our passion for sustainable and soft minimalist interiors, defined by curved lines, gentle tonal hues, and natural materials, we arrived in the heart of Java, Indonesia—a region not so simple to travel to. To a particular region of Java that is steeped in a profound history of furniture craftsmanship. Here, amidst its industrial landscape, we unearthed a legacy of woodworking that transcends generations.

Java, often eclipsed by Bali's tourist appeal, emerges as Indonesia's true furniture epicenter. It’s a place where artisans refine their craft over decades, melding time-honoured methods with contemporary design finesse that meets modern world demands. At Clement Studio, we found ourselves enthralled by the unwavering dedication and artistic mastery of these craftsmen.

Navigating Industrial Realities

Unlike Bali, Java isn't synonymous with leisurely tourism, It is essentially an industrial hub where artisans have applied and passed on their skills for generations. Despite the logistical challenges, we deemed it crucial to go straight to the source of manufacture. This decision allows us to work directly with the true artisans, bypassing the common practice where furniture assembled in Bali is actually manufactured and transported from Java.

Embracing Ethical Sourcing

Our commitment to ethical sourcing led us through Java's intricate network of workshops and factories. We meticulously vetted manufacturers whose values resonate with ours: sustainability, environmental stewardship, and fair treatment of artisans. This journey included firsthand inspections of timber sourcing, ensuring it originates from sustainably managed forests and meets government regulations – SVLK certifications. In fact Indonesia is becoming a world leader in ensuring that the sourcing of their raw materials meet international obligations that adhere to strict sustainability and environmental standards . Each piece of furniture you bring home not only enhances your space but also preserves Indonesia’s forest biodiversity for future generations.

The Enduring Charm of Teak

Central to our collection is teak wood—a testament to durability and beauty. Sourced from meticulously managed plantations in Indonesia, our teak furniture meets stringent sustainability criteria. Its natural oils and dense grain make it resilient against weather and pests, perfectly suited for the Australian climate. Choosing teak means investing in furniture that stands the test of time, reducing environmental impact through longevity and minimizing the need for replacements.

Concerned about environmental impact?

We share your concerns. That's why we opt for maritime transport from Java to Australia. Unlike air and road freight, maritime shipping offers a significantly lower carbon footprint. To put it into perspective, had we chosen to manufacture our furniture in Melbourne using Southern Australian hardwood, the carbon footprint of transporting it by truck to Noosa would roughly be twice that of shipping it by sea from Java. By sourcing directly from Java, we not only preserve the integrity of craftsmanship but also significantly reduce our environmental impact, aligning with our commitment to sustainability.

Direct Sourcing: Upholding Quality

Directly sourcing from Java empowers us to uphold our stringent standards of quality and craftsmanship. Bypassing intermediaries allows us to offer competitive pricing while retaining control over the entire production process.

When you select Clement Studio furniture, you invest in more than mere furnishings—you uphold a legacy of craftsmanship and sustainability. Each piece embodies the dedication of Java's artisans, enriching your connection to diverse cultures while supporting local communities and preserving Indonesia’s natural beauty.

We invite you to explore our collection—a testament to ethical sourcing, superior craftsmanship, and environmental stewardship.
